Sketchbooks are soul-informed, risky things that embody inventive and creative thinking, and deserve value and respect.

Do you think of a sketchbook as predominantly a tool for a visual artist?
Have you ever thought about making or using one yourself?
Have you wondered what it might look like or what could be in it?
Maybe you already have one but are uncertain, even fearful, about what it should be or how it ought to look?

This workshop will capture the spirit in which sketchbooks are kept, offer a number of practical strategies for their implementation, and look at the sketchbook in its broadest sense: its purpose, how it works, and how it can support and enrich creative thought for everyone who uses it. Participants will make a simple sketchbook, using prompts from sketchbook expert Alison Mountain to stimulate ideas and help overcome any fears about how and where to start.

Alison Mountain – has been an artist and art educator for over 25 years. She was one half of the highly successful Hat in the Cat – a textile, millinery and mixed media studio based in Perth, Scotland. Alison co-authored the groundbreaking book Think: Inside the Sketchbook, published by NSEAD & Collins Educational in 2011.

All materials are included in the workshop.
